Step Away from the List (For a Second)

So you are engaged and by now you’ve probably already opened a bridal magazine and stared at one of those wedding planning lists. And if you are like me you have gazed in panic at the outline for what to do every month (or day. or hour) during your 2 year long engagement. What? You don’t have two years and 10 assistants?

DON’T freak out. Most of those lists are ambitious at best (and downright terrifying at worst). Although many of the suggestions are valuable, it is not necessary to have every single item on the list.

DO get your wedding dress ordered at least 6 months before the wedding. Or as close to it as possible. Not having to stress about whether your dress will be in before the big day will be a big relief.

DON’T think that you must tick every mark on the 10 page long wedding checklist. It isn’t entirely necessary to hire a travel agent, schedule your pre-wedding day massage, and pick out napkin rings 12 months before the wedding day.

DO keep to a schedule. Planning and making lists can really help you see where you need to focus your wedding energies right now. Try to get a little bit done every week.

DON’T think you need a really long engagement to plan a wedding. Trust me, you don’t need 24 months to get your wedding day planned. Too much time might even make you go a little overboard on your planning.

DO take some time for yourself (and your man). It is easy to get caught up in the wedding mania and taking some time to spend with the man you are about to spend the rest of your life with is slightly more important than picking out the perfect place card.
