Get creative for your wedding and design your own personal wedding cake plate! This DIY project is quick, easy, and absolutely adorable when finished! You’ll only need a few items when preparing for this project, and it takes very little time to complete.
- 1 ceramic plate
- 1 Porcelain marker ( I used the one found at this link: http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/black-glass-paint-marker-103721/)
- Class cleaner
- 1 Sharpie marker
Step 1. Use glass cleaner to fully clean the surface of the plate. This will help the marker’s ink seal better to the ceramic, as well as remove any dust that could have settled on the plate upon purchasing or during storage.
Step 2. Gather your materials. You’ll need your plate, porcelain marker, as well as some sort of tracing device. I chose to use the small end of a felt tip sharpie.
* I recommend using something with a small tip. The end of the Porcelain marker is thick and can cover small mess ups easily.
Step 3. Begin tracing your design. Keep in mind the ink will be wet and can easily smudge. Plan ahead where you choose to start your design depending on whether you are right or left handed.
Step 4. For my design I chose to keep it simple and only included the short saying of, “Let’s eat cake!” You can write whatever you choose. Other options to include are the date of your wedding, initials, or names. It’s your plate, so get creative!
Step 5. Now grab your porcelain marker and begin to trace your original design. Again, keep in mind that the ink will be extremely wet, so plan where you choose to begin.
Step 6. Once you have completed your design, set the plate aside for 8 hours of air drying. This is the only long wait you’ll have to endure for this project.
Step 7. After 8 hours of air drying, set your oven to 350˚F. Place the plate in the oven for 40 minutes to seal the design.
Step 8. Remove plate and hand wash. Your plate is now safe to eat off of and display!
